theme

I think the theme of the story is that you shouldn't underestimate things. The martians at first seem to be frigile and weak. They also moved very slow. The people right than had a chance kill them before they could build their machines. When they started building there machines and using there ray the people started to run for thier lives and fearing them. I think thats the theme because there if they would have been causious and studied the martians may be they could have avoided the whole invasion in the first place.

conflict

The major conflict in the book ( WAR OF THE WORLDS) is that the martines want to take over the earth. The conflict starts when the cylinder first comes to earth. The martines come out and start building there weapons and start killing people. The Narrator who is the main character of the story flees from his home with his family to look for a safe place. The conflict is resolved when the aliens get a disease which they have obtained on earth. They try to cure them selves but they evantually die. I think it is realistic and believable because they came here not knowing about our planets atmosphere or diseases or anything.

The Last of the high kings

The main character in the book is J.J. He's a static character so far as i have read in the book. He's a brother to his younger children and takes care of them. All he does is help out with everything but its not suppose to be his job. His character so far in the book has stayed the same and hasn't changed. He's a flat character for me because I haven't learned anything about him so far. I've learned a few things about the other characters but not him specifically.As I go on reading I think he's going to turn into a dynamic or round character because I'll have more information on him and have a clear understanding of his character.

conflict

The conflict so far in the book is that the two cousins have to do a job. They were sent to observe the treaty. If the messanger comes back and puts his arm to the side, than it went great if not than they should feear for their lives. One will kill the other but the other cousin doesn't know why. In the book it said that he likes blood even his eyes when you look at him you can tell. The other cousin is scared but has to protect the place where he is.

I think that the cousin who left will return and not hurt his cousin but help him when he is attacked.

Book report

I chose to read The Last of the High Kings. I chose this book becasue it looked interesting and it seem like an adventure book. I haven't started reading the book yet but at this point I expect the book to be exciting and interesting. Its only the first chapter but its suppose to pull you in from the beginning. So thats what I expect form the book.

There are a lot of values for reading. Reading helps you expend your imagination. For example like you can creat mental pictures of what your are reading. Its like a movie going on in your head of what you're reading. It also helps you vocabulary wise. You get to expand on your vocabulary and learn new words. You may even use them when your talking to someone. Also reading gives you something to do. Instead of sitting on a couch and watching T.V. or being lazy, you can pick up a book and read.
